This video got me thinking that we too can have a people friendly town.
There is nothing stopping us from implementing slower speeds and more interaction with neighbours and other people we meet on the streets. If we really want a town that people want to visit, we need to create it throughout the whole town. Not just in certain districts or areas.
I love how much focus there always has been around waterways in Europe. Us, even with a new "Spirit Square" which is meant to get people downtown faces AWAY from the water. One more step backward. I want to go back!!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of reducing speed in all residential areas, if they can do it on selkirk hill why can't we have the same in town. As far as shutting down main street, trying this out with weekends would be a great start (perhaps with saturday farmers markets instead of wednesday). Finally i believe compulsory helmet laws for people over 18 decrease the amount of people who will ride bicycle's socially.
